Starlab
GRANTS IN ACTION
StarLab transformed science education by bringing a mobile, immersive planetarium directly into District 34 schools. This innovative GEF grant gave every K–8 student the opportunity to experience the wonders of space firsthand, bringing Next Generation Science Standards to life through interactive, hands-on exploration of our universe.

Upcycling Art
GRANTS IN ACTION
The Henking Weaving Project inspired students to see recycled materials in a whole new way, using art to teach sustainability, environmental stewardship, and creative problem-solving. Through collaborative installations created alongside families and community members, students discovered how innovation and collective action can transform everyday materials into something meaningful and lasting.

Hydroponic Urban
Farming
GRANTS IN ACTION
GEF's Hydroponic Urban Farming grant transformed STEM learning into a living laboratory where students grow fresh produce through a student-run indoor farm. By combining science, sustainability, entrepreneurship, and service, students experience the entire growing process—from seed to harvest—while learning how innovation can nourish both their school and the broader community through fundraising initiatives and donations to local food pantries.

Buddy Bench
GRANTS IN ACTION
Hoffman elementary students identified loneliness and inclusion as a challenge during recess, they designed a solution of their own. This innovative GEF grant empowered students to lead every step of the Buddy Bench project, fostering empathy, leadership, and stronger friendships across the school community.

For many children, learning to ride a bike is more than a childhood milestone—it's a gateway to independence, confidence, and connection. Middle School Broadcasting
GRANTS IN ACTION
Learning about media is one thing—bringing it to life in a professional production studio is another. Through this innovative GEF grant, students gain hands-on experience in pre-production, live broadcasting, and post-production while developing real-world skills in STEM, technology, communication, creativity, and collaboration.

Learning Minds
GRANTS IN ACTION
This innovative GEF grant created a dedicated Motor Lab where movement becomes a powerful tool for learning.
